Welcome to the Super Rugby Pacific Casualty Ward, the hub of all injury updates and news for the 2025 season.
All sides have named their squads for the opening week of action on Wednesday, with nearly all sides set to field many of their younger stars or new debutants in the first fixture of the year.
Other sides, like the Waratahs and Crusaders, have opted to go for a star-studded lineup, while the Brumbies are opting to leave nearly all of their Wallaby stars out on a daunting trip to Fiji.
Several star players have already been sidelined, with some already set to miss the entire season due to injuries sustained during the trials – with others set for even longer stints.
Big losses for the season include the likes of Wallace Sititi and Brett Cameron, with the Western Force losing two loosehead props for the year in Harry Johnson-Holmes and Harry Hoopert, putting their set piece depth to the test.

Brumbies
The Brumbies look to have progressed through the pre-season relatively unscathed, picking up a few injuries in the front row, loose forwards and in the back three. The big losses are Rob Valetini and Charlie Cale, who are dealing with hamstring and shoulder issues, respectively. Second-string props Tevita Alatini and Harry Vella have both sustained ACL injuries, while Ben O’Donnell and David Feliuai represent the current backs out of action.

NSW Waratahs
The Waratahs have enjoyed a strong pre-season, and luckily, have only sustained three injuries, with the biggest being Fergus Lee-Warner, who has been sidelined with a foot injury.

Western Force
Simon Cron’s men have copped the brunt of the injuries in the Australian side of things, with props and centre combinations taking the brunt of the injuries. While the Force do have several quality options available to them this weekend, they’ll be hoping many of these backline players can make a speedy recovery.
They’ve become the first Aussie side to sustain season-ending injuries, both to props Harry Hoopert and new recruit Harry Johnson-Holmes, before succumbing to knee injuries.

Fijian Drua
The Drua have lost two of their back three stars in Etonia Waqa and Selestino Ravtaumada to knee and shoulder injuries, respectively. Loose forward Epeli Momo is expected to also sit out the majority of the season but could be a late inclusion in the latter half of the year.

Moana Pasifika
Tana Umaga’s men have confirmed Moana Pasifika has sustained three injuries this pre-season, with Neria Fomani ruled out in late 2024 due to having ACL reconstructive surgery following an injury in the Bunnings NPC, which will rule him out for the year. Lotu Inisi and Wallaby Pone Fa’amausili are also injured, though the club has not disclosed the nature or duration of the injury.

Blues
The Kiwi sides across the board come into the season with lengthy injury concerns – and the Blues are no exception. While their All Blacks stars have made it through the season relatively unscathed, the side has lost several strong backup options, notably Kurt Eklund, PJ Sheck and critically, arguably the best player of the whole competition last year, Hoskins Sotutu. They have also lost All Black lock Sam Darry for the season with a shoulder injury.

Chiefs
The Chiefs have copped one of the biggest losses of the year so far, with Wallace Sititi set to miss out on the entire season due to a knee injury. The side has also sustained losses of All Blacks Samisoni Taukei’aho and Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi, though while their injuries are undisclosed, they are expected to make a return in 2025.

Crusaders
Rob Penney is facing a laundry list of injuries, with the Canterbury side coming into the season with by far the largest number in the casualty ward. Among the 14 men down include All Black Codie Taylor, George Bell and Dallas McLeod. While the side retains many of their front-line stars, should players start to drop due to further injury, the depth of the Crusaders’ squad could be significantly exposed.

Highlanders
The Highlanders have picked several medium to long-term injuries, with key players in the back three set to spend an extended period of the season out. Many players will see a gradual return – however, with the side already having several questions about their depth, they cannot afford any more lengthy losses.

Hurricanes
Lastly, the Hurricanes will enter the season having lost star Brett Cameron for the season due to a knee injury. While several big stars like Ruben Love, Tyrel Lomax and Asafo Aumua are on the sidelines, their gradual return over the forthcoming weeks should see the Wellington side back to full strength relatively quickly, save for any other potential injuries.
