New Zealand’s self-claimed fastest man, Tiaan Whelpton, has challenged the All Blacks’ speedsters to a 100m sprint.

Whelpton was born in Cape Town and schooled at Paul Roos Gymnasium before emigrating to New Zealand with his family in 2019.

The 24-year-old has run the 100m in 10.14 seconds and recently broke the New Zealand record for 60m by doing it in 6.50 seconds.

Now he wants to take on the likes of Will Jordan and Reiko Ioane to show just how quick he is.

“If I had to estimate, I’d say some of these [All Blacks] guys could probably go mid-11 seconds for 100m,” Whelpton told Stuff. “So I’d love to do a race against these guys.”

Whelpton said the All Blacks “are put on somewhat of a pedestal” in New Zealand and “I don’t think people are really gonna want to see them get whipped”.

He added: “I reckon I could catch them if they were about five metres ahead of me. I reckon I’d catch them over 100m, over the length of a pitch.”

Whelpton said his sprint against the All Blacks could be used to raise money for a charity.
